One of my special interests is observing birds, and Costa Rica is famous for its avian diversity. Therefore, I chose to stitch birds that I had seen for my art project memorializing this trip. I designed the patterns using the bird guidebooks and various photos online, but I adjusted and combined images so each pattern is from my own drawing. I saw dozens of birds, but chose these few because of something special about the encounter.

Particular thanks to The Birds of Costa Rica by Richard Garrigues ill. Robert Dean and all the guides whom I had the honor to work with.

I stitched the Birds of Costa Rica Embroidery Series during winter 2022.
